Amy is a Muay Thai fighter from Boston, USA. She moved to Australia over 10 years ago and currently fights for Pretty Top Team. She is the ISKA Queensland and World Champion and recently was crowned WKFB Queensland champion.
Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in Muay Thai?
I started doing a bit of self defence training while working nights. I really enjoyed the boxing elements and soon started training boxing regularly. This shifted into Muay Thai purely accidentally. The gym I had been attending closed and I started training under Paul with every intention of continuing boxing. Paul's Muay Thai classes were a new challenge that I really wanted to be good.
What’s your favourite dessert?
Chocolate Lava Cake.
What have you implemented into your training that you feel has been a game changer?
I recently implemented a new strength program into my training. I've already seen results and I'm super excited to see how this comes through in my next fight.
What’s your biggest goal for 2023?
2023 has already been a big year of changes for me. My goal is to continue to have growth in the sport and get another title this year, making my training work while being coached remotely. I really want a WKBF title purely because I've missed out on it twice now.
If you weren’t training Muay Thai, what sport/form of exercise would you be doing?
I gave up dancing when Muay Thai training became more of an obsession than a hobby. I found I didn't have the desire to pull any time or focus away from Muay Thai at the time. I probably would have pursued working my way into the competition team at my Salsa school.
